Reading Games--Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade

“Teacher Tam’s Reading Games” were created for use in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade classrooms. Some games are more appropriate for one grade or the other. Most of the games can be adjusted to meet the needs of students working on various skill levels, whether they need a challenge or an additional review of certain concepts. The students not only think the games are fun and spend time playing them with parents, siblings, and grandparents, but they also learn valuable reading skills at the same time!

The 12 Games

Making Words—A card game where students match an initial consonant with an ending to form various three-letter words
Bunny Hop-A board game where students practice reading CVC words
Sight Word Matching—A matching game where the cards have sight words
Letter Sounds—A set of six games where students match pictures with their correct beginning letter
The Path to Reading—A board game where students must name words beginning with the consonant they land on
Hop to It! Reading—Students must think of words beginning with various blends and digraphs
Zoom!—A game with three levels of cards to read which uses die cast cars for additional fun!
